Many manufacturers supply thick decals with their model kits. Even after successfully applying these decals to glossed surfaces and using settings and softening solutions the thick decal film will often still be apparent. Here is one technique to minimize the appearance of the thick decal film.

After the "thick" kit decals have be applied successfully without silvering, let them dry overnight. Wash off the residue of the setting solutions and allow to dry. To make the thick decal film less obvious apply a second gloss coat to the decaled model. Apply in a fine mist. It may require two or three fine coats. Building up a "sandwich" of gloss around the decal usually makes the film less apparent. Let dry and flat coat as per normal.
