Tips For A Model Life
Writer: Keith West

The following are a few tips to help you have a better life as a modeler. Some may even keep you out of trouble. If you are new to modeling or if you are young and have problems at home because of your hobby, some of these tips may help.

1. First of all find a place in your home where you can work on your models without being disturbed. This should be a place where you are not in the way of someone else.
2. Keep all of your modeling equipment in one place, like a desk. This will keep it out of the reach of others and it will be neat so no one will complain.
3. Follow the rules of life. You may have school, work, or chores that have to be done. For the adults you may have to work around the house to do. If all this is done first then no one can or will be interrupting you as you do your modeling.
4. Spend time with your family. Set aside time to spend with your spouse, children, or other family members. If you spend all your time on modeling you will have many complaints from the family. If you keep them happy then you will be happy.
5. Put your completed models in a place that is safe and out of harms way. If you have pets you need to keep the models out of their way. A model that took six months to build can be destroyed in two seconds. Remember, accidents do happen. If this is the case, dont forget that you are human too. Talk about where you are to place them. Someone else in the family may not like your decision. This will cause problems. If everyone is happy then your model life will be better.
6. When working on models be sure to work where spills can be cleaned easily. At my desk, on the floor, I have a sheet of plastic from the office supply store. If I spill something it will be easy to clean.
7. Airbrushing in the house is forbidden. You may think that the paint is not going to get on anything else. You may not see it now, but it will build up on everything. Take it outside or in a workshop.
8. Ask some family member's opinion, if you need to see if something looks right, or if you are not sure you have chosen a good color to paint something. When you ask their opinion they feel needed. You can also get some good ideas from them. My wife has given me some good ideas. I dont always use her ideas, but she still likes to help.

These tips may help you enjoy modeling more. If i could, I would spend a few hours a day on modeling. This is not always possible so i spend what time i can on it. Think of others as you model. Enjoy your hobby.
